Whoa, this is news. Google is planning to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion. So does it mean there will be more official Google Android devices? I sure hope so, but chances are, they are just buying them for their mobile patents. This might have something to do with Motorola hinting that they may start flexing their IP muscle and sue other Android manufacturers. That’s the kind of uncertainty that Google doesn’t need, especially since they are already being sued for violating patents on Android.
Pay now, get a the large mobile patent portfolio that they’ve been looking for and certainty for their Android platform. Money well spent, I’d say. If they can squeeze out a few handsets and tablets that’s upgraded as often as the Nexus One, that would be a major plus.
