Why Can’t I Install Windows 8 Pre-Release On A VM?

Microsoft Logo

Microsoft released a developers pre-release version of their latest OS Windows 8 yesterday. It’s free and the license is good for a year, sounds like a good way to see what’s coming up. However, I’ve tried installing it on a Virtual PC virtual machine and a VirtualBox virtual machine but no dice on either one.

Virtual PC gave me the new, user friendly, blue screen of death (cool). VirtualBox got pretty far along, however it freezes in the process of installing. I guess I’ll try upgrading VirtualBox and different settings, to see if I can get it to run. I should have gotten that Dell touch screen monitor when it was on sale, it would work very well on Windows 8 with their new Metro interface.
