HP Replaces CEO, Hopefully Stops Digging Own Grave

HP Logo

HP just announced that CEO Léo Apotheker is being replaced by former eBay CEO Meg Whitman. It’s a bit of a surprising move since Apotheker was probably the mastermind behind HP’s recent strategic moves. Yea, I’m talking about dropping WebOS and getting rid of their PC business. Most people, including myself, think it’s probably one of the dumbest things HP can do. It’s up there with Yahoo! giving up search and using Bing for their results. It seems there’s a trend of new CEOs coming in to companies and getting rid their core competencies. Seriously? Nobody sees anything wrong with this?

Anyway, hopefully Whitman will reverse course and stop HP from digging it’s own grave. If not, I’m available. I can guarantee I won’t screw up the company and won’t cause the stock price to plummet. If it doesn’t work out, just let me go with a golden parachute.
